Almost 1,000 km for a good cause – cycling to Paris on a road bike
At the beginning of July, Florian Prüstel, a member of our management team, set off on a big tour to Paris together with Team Rynkeby Nieder-Olm. They covered almost 1,000 kilometers in a week to raise money for seriously ill children.
After an exciting first day, the group settled into a routine, helped by the repetitive daily schedule. Florian tried out different positions within the group. It was easier to ride in the middle, as it was protected from the wind, whereas at the front there was significantly more resistance.
One day in Belgium that was completely rainy is particularly memorable: “The water ran into the top of my helmet and out the bottom of my shoes.” And, of course, the ride into Paris: as more and more groups in yellow jerseys came together, everyone rode through the city without any security and finally met up with a total of 2,200 participants from all over Europe at the Paris Velodrome. It was an incredible feeling. A special surprise was that a few colleagues and some of Florian’s family were waiting for him in Paris.
Most importantly, a donation total of €8,492,260 has already been announced in Paris, and the campaign will continue until August 31.
A new group is currently being formed almost on his doorstep in Hartheim: Team Black Forest. Maybe he’ll be back next year, because he has found a new hobby in road cycling and combines the sporting challenge with a good cause.
